Untold Secrets - Part 1

The sand makes you sneeze. Despite opening your eyes, all you see is blackness. The very fact you sneezed means you can’t possibly be dead, but where you are, you cannot say. “Bob?”

The area around you echoes back a thousand voices like your own, and they are all calling Bob. That at least gives you an idea of what you are in. It is some sort of cave, but where?

You start to stand, but feel the poke of something from above. Short cave? Long cave? The absence of everyone else, the idea of being in a cave with no light, and the thought of not knowing where you are all combine into terror. You become aware of the throbbing in your palm; it seems to match your heart beat.

“No, I will be calm.”

The echoes reinforce the statement, but do not make you feel better. “Bob!” However, with your refusal to panic, both heart beat and throb begin to slow.

You hear a sigh. Were it not for the echoes, you would have missed it entirely. “Bob The Pixie!”

As you speak his name, you realize the throb in your hand has dropped to almost nothing, but it is still there. You think about Bob’s reaction to Be, and her attempt to remove what she said was a mistake.

“Bob!”

The sigh again, but this time, despite the echoes, you have a better idea of its location. Tentatively you reach out, moving your hands slowly in case you hit something.

You drop to your knees and call again; there are more sighs. Inch by inch you crawl across the cave floor.

You bump into some sort of rock. It does not cut you, but had you hit it much harder, it could have. It is cold to the touch and moist.

You become aware of dripping, along with the slight sound of gurgling water. The cave is below the water table, and running water normally means an active, natural, aqueduct.

There are two sighs now, no, three. They multiplying and getting louder by the moment. No, those aren’t sighs. They are slithering sounds. Have you appeared in a den of snakes?
